Here's Why Paul Bettany's Vision Was in Blue Face Makeup for Some 'WandaVision' Scenes

Paul Bettany is sharing some behind-the-scenes secrets from the set of his new show WandaVision!

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Paul explained that because the show is black and white, WandaVision‘s makeup department had to change up his character Vision’s regular hue.

“In the black-and-white stuff in WandaVision, I am blue in real life,” Paul said. “They made me blue because it looked more like that purple, aubergine color you’re expecting. It somehow didn’t look right when I was red, in black and white.”

Paul stars alongside Elizabeth Olsen in the new Disney+ series, which is being billed as “a blend of classic television and the Marvel Cinematic Universe in which Wanda Maximoff (Olsen) and Vision (Bettany) – two super-powered beings living idealized suburban lives – begin to suspect that everything is not as it seems.”

The 49-year old actor also shared the labor intensive process of removing the makeup after a shoot. Paul explained, “Actually, getting it off seemed to be the really tricky thing because it takes a long time. It’s an over-an-hour process of taking the makeup off, and we found that the thing that really helped us be gentle with my bella faccia was to spend 20 minutes in a sauna with a glass of wine.”

Fans can tune in to Disney+ on January 15 to catch the premiere of WandaVision.
